Welcome to the World of the African Woman

In 2020, we recognized a significant gap in how the African narrative concerning women was being shaped. Most stories about African women were either told by non-African voices or did not fully capture their diverse experiences. We saw that there was essentially only one story being told by African women—that of struggle and hardship—without highlighting the many roles women can play.

Inspired by author Malebo Sephodi's powerful words — “The voice of a woman should always be HERSELF ... No edits - no erasure - no pressure - no expectations - no additions - no intruders” — we believed in creating space for women to speak authentically and without censorship. 

Our vision was to elevate authentic stories, honoring the complexity, resilience, and achievements of African women across the continent. What began as a platform focused solely on storytelling has grown into a vibrant community that engages women through advocacy, mentorship, and membership groups. Our goal remains to empower women to tell their own stories and to reshape the narrative about African women—strong, diverse, and unstoppable.

Founded to address the underrepresentation of marginalized women in media and leadership, African Female Voices is driven by a commitment to authentic storytelling and social change. We are dedicated to fostering an inclusive space where African women can be seen, heard, and celebrated.
